ALSO.. BABYS ARE NEVER PUT ON THEIR BACKS I HAVE A BASSINET &I PUT A CO-SLEEPER ON MY REGISTRY I USE THIS SO THAT THE SLEEP O THEIR BACKS& SIDES BUT EVER THEIR STOMACH

I use the Evenflo single pump, works fine for me. And no,you should not put your baby on their stomach regardless of a sleep positioner. But for a newborn you really don’t even need one. Since they do not have the muscle strength or coordination to turn over on their own

My mother is nuts and trying to tell me that if I get an electric pump, my carotid artery is going to burst and I am going to have to have surgery. Yes, I know she is slightly bonkers. Anywho, I was wondering if you used manual or electric pump. What were the pros/cons of the pump you chose?
Thanks all for the answers so far. For clarification, I will be returning to work fairly quickly on a part-time basis. I plan on breast feeding for 6-8 months, but we’ll see how it goes.

WHAT???? lol that’s funny!

Uh well I’ve been at it for over a year now and I haven’t exploded yet…so I think you’ll survive…lol

I have had three manual pumps and two electrics…

I can’t remember the brands of the manuals…I know one was the medela and one might have been a gerber…I can’t remember the third…but it doesn’t matter because they were all crap. A total and complete waste of money….

The first electric I got was the Evenflow Elan – it worked great for about 4 months…and then the motor started sounding like a Buick , getting louderand louder….so in fear of having it break down and be left with nothing…
I went out and got a Madela Pump In Style Advanced….and its been the best money I ever spent.

Your needs really should be what determines what you buy…if you’re just using it for back up milk bottles from time to time you may be able to get away with a manual (I’ve heard good things about the Avent)…but if you’re going back to work and pumping for the day…

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND a dual electric. Specifically the Madela Pump In Style…(the "advanced" model or not…it’s a nice feature but not a must)

I have been back to work for a year now, and I pump two or three times a day with it and it has kept my supply strong and steady and has allowed me to continue my nursing relationship with my son despite working full time…

I have had ZERO cons with this particular pump…it is in a handy little back pack, it has car adapters so you can pump on the go if you need to, It doesn’t look like a big dumb breast pump…lol …It really is probably my wisest purchase to date.

Madela Pump In Style Advanced…..Definately the way to go.

** By the way the "advanced" is just a two minute period at teh beginning of the pump that stimulates let down…it works great…but it’s not a must per say…I’m just letting you know, because no one seemed to be able to tell me what the heck the difference was…and I discovered it after I had purchased the pump…so fyi lol

If you’re interested in looking into them…I got mine from this website that ships same day and sells them about 50 bucks cheaper than even Target or Walmart…

www.lactationcare.com – they have them cheaper than anyone …including the cost of shipping…and they really are the best pumps on the market.

Good LUck!!!!

** Oh ya…just to give you an idea…depending on the day and how much rest I get and how hydrated I kept myself…I can pump anywhere between 6 to 10 ounces in about 10 or 15 minutes for my morning pump and then another 5 ounces in 10 or 15 minutes mid afternoon, and then another 5 ounces in the evening …so anywhere from 15 to 20 ounces a day and then we nurse all night.

Ameda Breast Pump?

Posted by admin

Have any of you used Ameda Engell Elite brest pump? What do you think about it?
It’s the one that you rent. It’s green with 2 knobs on it.

Yes, after using the Medela’s at the hospital for the last 3 babes, I got an Ameda this time.

I really liked it, I especially like the ability to EASILY use it as a handpump. The medela hand pump was torture.

I just wanted to know if I could buy any cheaper bottles that would attatch to the Medela breastpump I have and not have any leakage.

Its fine if all i can use is the Medela brand… i was just hoping maybe i could go a cheaper route than spending an arm and a leg if i don’t have to.

I have used Evenflo glass bottles with my Medela pump, and they work great. They’re pretty inexpensive, and no worries about BPA or pthalates. I’ve also used bottles from Gerber, Nuby, and Dr. Brown. Pretty much any bottle with an average-size opening at the top works with the Medela pumps. The only bottle I can think of that isn’t compatible with the Medela pumps would be Avent, because they have a wider mouth than most brands. Good luck.

If anyone has ever used either on of these can you please tell me your opinions on them. The Medela was $150 and the Avent was $50. Both found at target. I plan on breastfeeding ng my son. But I wan to have one when my breast are sore or when I go back to worK. And also with the bags that they give you, with the pumps. How long can those stay safely in the freezer? And how do u un thaw them and prepare the milk form the freezer to the bottle for the baby?

Pumping is no easier on your breast then breastfeeding is. A good pump will suction the same as you child. If you are going back to work I suggest a duel pump or you will spend a whole lotta time pumping at work. With a duel pump it takes me 20 minutes total. I use the Lansinoh, $150, work great. I’ve been using it for 6 months about 4-6 times a day with no problems.

Any suggestions?

This is an answer I gave about 2 weeks ago – hope it helps

my son would not latch on so I pump exclusively. He is 7 months old today and has had only breastmilk. I have a Medela Pump in Style and I highly recommend it. It is very easy for traveling, everything fits in the carrying case which looks like a big purse.. I tried the Ameda pump first and for me, they did not even compare. The medela is definately the way to go. I would suggest maybe renting one for the first month to see if it will even work for you. I am using a friends that she used one time. She wanted to breastfeed but hated it and could not stand pumping when she tried it. Also, another one of my friends could breastfeed, but when she tried to pump she could only get about 1/2 ounce total … it just did not work for her. Why spend the $ if it may not work for you. Just a thought. Good luck!
